5/29/2023 0 Comments Harlan coben home series![]() In Home, by Harlan Coben, Win needs Myron’s help, not the other way around. ![]() Home is where his best friend Myron Bolitar is. Win, or Windsor Horne Lockwood, III, has always known exactly where home was. This book earned a place on my shelf of all-time favorites. I was left with a big ole’ grin on my face and tears running down my cheeks. I needn’t worry! The ending meshed perfectly to the book as a whole. I was concerned that the intensity of this book wouldn’t hold till the end – hoping that I wouldn’t be let down in the end. The words just flow and the storyline is seamless. I read from beginning to end with a permanent smile on my face. The witty banter is nonstop throughout this book. ![]() But more importantly, where is the other boy? Naturally, questions arise as to where they had been all this time. Now 10 years later, Win receives an email out of the blue that may just lead him to one of the boys. One of the boys just happens to be the son of Win’s cousin. ![]() The plot unfolds when ten years ago, two boys, Rhys and Patrick are kidnapped. Myron and Win are two of my all-time, most entertaining book characters! Together again, their magic just sparkles! An outstanding book by one of my favorite authors. Actually, upon further reflection, this is my favorite Harlan Coben book, period! ![]()

![]() ![]() Kinzer, the NYT correspondent in Istanbul for four years in the late 90’s, clearly loves Turkey and wants to see it reach its potential. Regardless, I highly recommend Stephen Kinzer’s Crescent and Star: Turkey Between Two Worlds. So you do not make the same mistake, I am here to tell you, “Do not discuss Cyprus, Armenians, Greece, or Kurds with Turkish friends unless you know them well and are careful in bringing up the topic.” I had been reading Kinzer’s excellent work and wanted to ask my classmates some questions about what I was learning. This was my introduction to “Topics Not To Be Discussed in Turkey”. I gave no details or even hints about what I was thinking, but my classmate, who had been so friendly a minute before, went into a fiery rage. I took advantage of a pause in our work to ask some questions about the Armenians in eastern Turkey after WWI. I was happy to see that Dru was special because she could kick ass and had a brain in her head, not simply because she was pretty or smelled good, or whatever. In fact, Christophe is absent for easily half the book (or rather, half of both books). It was a little different, Graves seems to have an upper hand in the relationship triangle, and he is not strictly a werewolf nor does Christophe send out that creepy stalker-vibe that certain other vampires have been known to throw. I did roll my eyes a little bit at the whole "werewolf vs vampire fight over a pretty girl" storyline, like it hasn't been done to death by the "Twilight" series. ![]() I will say that I plowed through this two-books-in-one combination in less than 24 hours, and it obviously held my attention enough to get me through it quickly. ![]() 5/29/2023 0 Comments In Europe by Geert Mak![]() ![]() In Warsaw he finds the point where the tram rails that led to the Jewish ghetto come to a dead end in a city park. ![]() ![]() At Ypres he hears the blast of munitions from the Great War that are still detonated twice a day.
